Bears Secure Defense with T.J. Edwards' Extension, Joining Gordon and Johnson in Long-Term Plans

The Chicago Bears have solidified their defensive core by extending linebacker T.J. Edwards with a two-year, $20 million contract that includes $16.6 million fully guaranteed. This extension keeps Edwards with the team through the 2027 season. 

Edwards, a native of Lake Villa, Illinois, joined the Bears in March 2023 on a three-year, $19.5 million deal. Over his first two seasons in Chicago, he has started all 34 games, recording 284 tackles, 6.5 sacks, four interceptions, 10 passes defensed, and two forced fumbles. His consistent performance has earned him recognition as the team's "unsung hero" and "secret superstar."

This move is part of a broader strategy by the Bears to retain key defensive players. Cornerbacks Kyler Gordon and Jaylon Johnson have also received contract extensions this offseason. Gordon agreed to a three-year, $40 million deal, while Johnson signed a four-year, $76 million contract with $51.4 million guaranteed. 

The Bears' commitment to these players reflects their focus on building a strong defensive foundation. With head coach Ben Johnson at the helm, the team aims to enhance its defensive capabilities and improve upon its 5–12 record from the 2024 season.
