Calais Campbell Returns to Arizona for 18th NFL Season with One-Year Deal

Calais Campbell is returning to where it all began for his 18th season in the NFL, signing a one-year, $5.5 million deal with the Arizona Cardinals, which could be worth up to $7.5 million with incentives. The deal, reported by NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, marks Campbell’s return to the team that drafted him in 2008, concluding speculation about his potential retirement.

The 38-year-old defensive lineman, a six-time Pro Bowl selection and owner of 110.5 career sacks, spent the 2023 season with the Miami Dolphins before rejoining the Cardinals. His return bolsters a revamped pass rush for Arizona, which also added defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson and pass rusher Josh Sweat, alongside re-signing outside linebacker Baron Browning. With the addition of Campbell, the team’s young talent, including 2024 first-round pick Darius Robinson, will benefit from the veteran’s leadership and experience.

Campbell’s career has spanned multiple teams, including the Jacksonville Jaguars, Baltimore Ravens, and Atlanta Falcons. While he has occasionally considered retirement, he continues to defy expectations and remains an impactful player. Throughout his career, Campbell has earned numerous accolades, including being named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s All-2010s Team and winning the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2019.

Having played 261 games with 242 starts, Campbell has been a model of durability. His career stats include 917 tackles, 266 quarterback hits, 18 forced fumbles, and 13 fumble recoveries. With his leadership and consistency, he remains an important asset to the Cardinals as they look to bolster their defense.

Campbell’s return to Arizona also marks a reunion with head coach Jonathan Gannon, who, at 41, is just three years younger than Campbell. After a strong 2024 season with the Dolphins, where he posted 52 tackles and five sacks, Campbell has once again decided that Arizona is the right place for him to continue his remarkable career.
