Damian Lillard injury: Bucks star out indefinitely with deep vein thrombosis in right calf

NFL free agency started off quietly but quickly picked up momentum. Russell Wilson reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the New York Giants worth up to $21 million, including $10.5 million guaranteed. Just 20 minutes later, Stefon Diggs was said to have finalized a deal with the New England Patriots for three years, $69 million, with $26 million guaranteed. Both deals were reported by ESPN.

As a result, the Giants' quarterback room will feature Wilson and Jameis Winston, while rookie Drake Maye will get a fast-track lesson in being the WR1 alongside four-time Pro Bowler Diggs, who is known for speaking his mind. The Patriots, who have been in need of a true top-tier receiving option for a while, are hoping Diggs can help them make strides. With Mike Vrabel's coaching and Diggs recovering from an ACL injury last October, it’s expected he will be ready for Week 1.

Meanwhile, J.J. McCarthy stated on Tuesday (March 25) that he hasn't been told he's the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings yet. While this isn't a huge surprise in March, it leaves open the possibility of a bigger move. Aaron Rodgers is still unsigned, and while recent reports suggested the Vikings were planning to go forward with McCarthy, the situation remains unclear. The only recent development for Rodgers was a meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers last Friday (March 21).

To help resolve this, the Vikings could sign a veteran quarterback either to challenge McCarthy or serve as an experienced backup. Until then, both Rodgers' decision and the Vikings' next move remain up in the air.

Across the NFL, many of Yahoo Sports' top 25 free agents have already signed, so if you missed any recent moves, don't worry. We've been keeping track of all the deals this month. Plus, with the NFL Draft approaching, Cam Ward is projected to go first in our latest mock draft. Yahoo's draft experts Nate Tice and Charles McDonald have written profiles on players like Ward, Shedeur Sanders, and Shemar Stewart.

In NBA news, Damian Lillard of the Milwaukee Bucks has been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in his right calf, forcing him to be sidelined indefinitely. The Bucks announced that he is on blood-thinning medication and the condition has been stabilized. The team is hopeful Lillard might return this season. Lillard has missed the Bucks' last three games and had been struggling with calf issues. While this situation is serious, the belief is that it won't recur, and it shouldn't affect his career in the long term. Lillard's absence is significant as the Bucks are competing for a strong postseason position, currently sitting at 40-31, just behind the Pacers and ahead of the Pistons in the Eastern Conference standings.
