Emmitt Smith Sounds Off on Eagles Fans and Cowboys' Super Bowl Drought

“I’m sick of it. I’m sick of it for two reasons. One, we’ve let people pick apart the star and clown the star. That’s what happens when you let other organizations win — now, all of a sudden, over the last 20 years, they win two Super Bowls and act like they run the planet. Everywhere I go, it’s, ‘Go Birds.’ I’m tired of hearing ‘Go Birds.’ I keep asking, ‘Where are you going?’ Because you still got a long way to go to reach us.”

Smith, who won three Super Bowls with the Cowboys in the 1990s, didn’t stop there. He expressed deep disappointment in the team's inability to even reach an NFC Championship Game since their last title in the 1995-96 season — a nearly 30-year absence that’s the longest current drought in the NFC.

“It bugs me because, in my heart, I believe this organization should be contending for an NFC Championship and even a Super Bowl at least once or twice every decade. Every team goes through a cycle — but for us to be absent this long? That’s a crying shame.”

While the Cowboys remain the most valuable franchise in all of sports, their postseason track record tells a different story. Meanwhile, the Eagles and New York Giants have each hoisted two Lombardi Trophies since Dallas last won one. Even the Washington Commanders, despite their own long Super Bowl drought, reached the NFC Championship Game last season and appear to be on the rise.
