Flames End Kings' Regular Season on a High, Kadri Leads with Two Goals in 5-1 Victory

On April 17, 2025, the Los Angeles Kings concluded their regular season with a 5-1 loss to the Calgary Flames at Crypto.com Arena. Despite the defeat, the Kings secured the second seed in the Pacific Division and are set to face the Edmonton Oilers in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs starting April 21.

The Flames, who were eliminated from playoff contention earlier in the week, ended their season on a high note with a four-game winning streak and a 7-1-3 record over their last 11 games. Nazem Kadri led Calgary with two goals, including his career-best 35th of the season. Mikael Backlund added a goal and an assist, while rookies Sam Morton and Zayne Parekh each scored in their NHL debuts, marking the first time in franchise history that two Flames players achieved this feat in the same game. Goaltender Dan Vladar made 30 saves to secure the victory.

For the Kings, Taylor Ward scored their only goal in his NHL debut. Goaltender David Rittich stopped 24 shots in the loss.

This game marked the final regular-season matchup between these Pacific Division rivals, who have faced each other multiple times this season. The Kings will now focus on their upcoming playoff series against the Oilers, aiming to advance further in the postseason.
