Lindor's Error Costs Mets in 6-3 Loss to Twins: Shortstop Takes Responsibility

Tuesday night’s game between the Mets and Twins was a close one, but a costly mistake in the third inning swung the game in Minnesota's favor. After Tylor Megill allowed two baserunners, he got DaShawn Keirsey Jr. to pop out on a bunt attempt, leaving him one out away from escaping the jam. However, Ty France's soft grounder to Francisco Lindor resulted in an error, allowing a run to score. Carlos Correa followed with an RBI single, giving the Twins a 2-1 lead.

"It's baseball, it happens," said Mets manager Carlos Mendoza. "Lindor's a great player, and he'll move past it."

Lindor, however, was more critical of himself, explaining that the weather made his eyes a little blurry but that the mistake was unacceptable. "It’s not up to the standards of the Mets, or mine," he said. "I need to get better."

This error added to Lindor’s earlier blunder on April 1, when he made two errors, costing the Mets two unearned runs. While the Mets’ 6-3 loss to the Twins wasn’t solely due to Lindor’s defensive mishaps, his errors were significant in a game where only Pete Alonso and Juan Soto managed to break through against starter Bailey Ober and Minnesota’s bullpen.

Lindor admitted he felt bad for Megill, who had executed well to get out of the jam, but he knew he needed to make the play. "It’s a game of execution. They played cleaner than us," Lindor said.

After just 12 errors last season, Lindor already has four this year, but he is focused on improving. "I have to finish the plays and execute better," he said. "I’ll get better for sure."
