Max Scharping Rejoins Steelers After Brief Stint with Commanders

Offensive lineman Max Scharping has officially returned to the Pittsburgh Steelers after re-signing with the team this week, as confirmed by the NFL’s daily transaction report on Tuesday. Scharping first joined the Steelers last October after being signed off the Washington Commanders' practice squad. He played in two games for Pittsburgh, contributing seven offensive snaps during his brief time with the team. 

Before his tenure with the Steelers, Scharping spent the preseason and training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles. However, after being part of the final roster cuts in Philadelphia, he was signed to the Washington Commanders' practice squad, where he continued to train and stay ready for a potential opportunity in the NFL.

Scharping’s professional journey began when he was selected by the Houston Texans in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Over his four seasons with the Texans, Scharping became a key component of their offensive line, starting 35 games in 50 appearances. His time in Houston was marked by consistency and durability, as he was an integral part of the line. In 2022, Scharping moved on to the Cincinnati Bengals, where he played 34 games over the next two years. Although he made limited starts, his most notable contributions came in the 2022 postseason, where he started three games for the Bengals.

Now back with the Steelers, Scharping will likely compete for a more significant role as the team strengthens its offensive line. With experience across multiple teams and various starting roles, Scharping brings valuable depth and versatility to Pittsburgh's offensive front as they continue to build for the upcoming season.
