Mets Walk It Off in Extras to Cap Perfect Homestand
Share
The Mets’ perfect homestand was hanging by a thread in the bottom of the 10th, down 3-2 to the Phillies. But inside the dugout, there was no panic—just belief.
That belief paid off in a thrilling 4-3 walk-off win Wednesday at Citi Field, completing a three-game sweep of their NL East rivals and extending their win streak to seven.
“That’s a huge team win,” said manager Carlos Mendoza—and it truly was. From Juan Soto’s clutch outfield assist in the eighth to Pete Alonso’s game-tying double and Starling Marte’s walk-off single, nearly every Met played a part.
The unsung hero? Max Kranick. After Edwin Díaz exited with cramps in the 10th, Kranick entered with the bases loaded and one out. Cool and composed, he got two harmless flyouts to escape the jam and give the Mets a shot.
“He kept us in it,” Mendoza said. “When you see the top of our order coming up—Soto, Pete, Vientos, Nimmo—you just know we’ve got a chance.”
Alonso tied it. Marte won it.
Marte’s moment felt especially fitting. No longer an everyday starter, he still answered the call in a big spot—just as this team has all season.
“Not an easy role for him,” Mendoza added. “But he stayed ready, and he delivered.”
Fundamentals, belief, and timely execution—right now, the Mets are doing it all.
