Panthers End Regular Season, Set Sights on Playoff Clash with Lightning

The Florida Panthers have officially closed the book on their 2024–25 regular season, finishing with a 5–1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night. But for the sixth straight year, the real story begins now—the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

While Tuesday’s game was technically a preview of Florida’s first-round matchup with Tampa, it was far from a true reflection. With third place in the Atlantic Division already locked up, the Panthers rested several key players, including Sasha Barkov, Sam Reinhart, Anton Lundell, and Gus Forsling.

No More Brutal Scheduling

The end of the regular season also marks the end of a grueling stretch that saw Florida play nine games in 15 days.

“That’s what nine games in 15 days does,” said head coach Paul Maurice. “In 27 seasons, I’ve never seen a schedule like that.”

With the playoffs, a more balanced and predictable schedule lies ahead—offering Florida some much-needed recovery time.

Silver Linings from a Tough Loss

Despite falling behind 3–0 early and never recovering, Maurice saw a few positives.

“Verhaeghe looked sharp, Rodrigues had a great game, the penalty kill came through when needed—and we didn’t lose anyone to injury, which is big for us,” he noted.

Ready for the Real Thing

Now, the focus shifts to Game 1 at Amalie Arena. The Panthers feel deeper and more battle-tested than ever, having endured a tough season filled with injuries and adversity.

“I think they’re excited,” Maurice said. “They learned a lot grinding through this year, and they’ve stuck together. This is the part of the year everyone looks forward to.”

With their full lineup expected to return, Florida is poised for a strong postseason run—starting with their in-state rivals.
