Reds Erupt for 24 Runs in Historic Easter Blowout of Orioles

The Cincinnati Reds turned Camden Yards into a launchpad on Easter Sunday, dismantling the Baltimore Orioles in a 24-2 rout — the second-highest run total in franchise history since 1900.

The offensive explosion began in the third inning with a seven-run surge, breaking a 1-1 tie wide open. Elly De La Cruz kickstarted the barrage with a solo home run, followed by a flurry of hits, walks, and a costly error by Orioles starter Charlie Morton, who was tagged for seven runs in just 2 1/3 innings.

But Morton wasn’t alone in his struggles. Relievers Cody Poteet and Cionel Pérez were also rocked, combining to allow eight more runs across 4 2/3 innings. By the ninth, Baltimore turned to position players Jorge Mateo and Gary Sánchez to stop the bleeding — they gave up a combined nine runs over two innings.

Cincinnati’s lineup delivered from top to bottom, with 10 different players recording hits. Austin Wynns went 6-for-7 with six RBI, while Noelvi Marte drove in a game-high seven runs, including a grand slam. TJ Friedl added a triple, and Austin Hays collected four hits and four runs scored.

The 24-run outburst was the Reds’ most since a 26-run game in 1911 and their third-highest total in team history. Baltimore, meanwhile, was left reeling — their rotation now owns an MLB-worst 6.11 ERA, and their overall team ERA of 5.43 is also the league’s highest.

For longtime Orioles fans, Sunday’s meltdown might’ve felt familiar. Back in 2007, they surrendered 30 runs to the Texas Rangers — the most allowed in a single game in modern MLB history.

Unfortunately for Baltimore, it’s not just a bad day at the office — it’s part of a troubling trend that’s showing no signs of slowing.
