Seahawks Overhaul Offense with Key Trades, New Coordinator and Fresh Faces for 2025 Season

The Seattle Seahawks are undergoing a major overhaul on offense as they head into the 2025 NFL season. With the draft just weeks away, the team has already made significant changes, replacing their starting quarterback and two of their top three receivers. Under the direction of new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, the team will implement a fresh scheme, bringing in assistants who share his vision. The Seahawks' offense underwent a complete rebuild after general manager John Schneider traded quarterback Geno Smith and star receiver DK Metcalf just before free agency. This followed the expected release of Tyler Lockett, making way for new faces, including quarterback Sam Darnold, wide receivers Cooper Kupp and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Despite the swap, the new trio is considered less talented compared to the previous group. However, the Seahawks are optimistic, with hopes that financial savings, a better fit for the new scheme, and the addition of second- and third-round draft picks will pay off in the long run.

Darnold, who signed a three-year deal worth $105.5 million, is expected to play a key role in the offense, especially in critical situations like red zone and third down plays. Macdonald praised Darnold's accuracy and ability to make plays on the run, pointing to his successful season with the Minnesota Vikings. Meanwhile, Kupp, a one-time Pro Bowl selection, brings a unique skill set to the team, known for his ability to get open even when covered, making him a significant weapon for the Seahawks in high-leverage situations.

The Seahawks are also addressing their wide receiver depth, with Valdes-Scantling expected to be the No. 3 behind Kupp and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. The team could still add another receiver during the draft, but for now, they are confident in the trio they've assembled. The offensive line, however, remains a concern, with the team struggling to land a veteran guard. Despite this, the Seahawks are confident that their young linemen will thrive in Kubiak’s system, which emphasizes a strong zone rushing attack and under-center plays.

With five picks in the top 92 and over $30 million in cap space, the Seahawks are well-positioned to continue their offensive transformation through the draft or veteran additions. Whether they improve their offensive line or make additional moves, the team is determined to rebuild and emerge stronger in the 2025 season.
