The Mock Draft: A Necessary Evil, But Always a Headache

The Mock Draft: A Necessary Evil, But Always a Headache

The mock draft. If you’ve been following the NFL for as long as I have (over 25 years), you’d understand why I’ve grown to absolutely despise it. Yet, here we are, embracing it like we always do. After all, when in Rome, right?

The madness begins right after the draft ends, which, to be honest, is utterly ridiculous. Mock drafts before free agency have almost no value. The needs of teams change dramatically once free agency begins—players are signed, players are lost, and the entire landscape of the draft shifts. So why bother pretending to know anything before the dust settles?

I gave up on doing the mock draft personally a long time ago. It's a task for someone far more excited about it than I am—someone who’s plugged into the pulse of the league, able to put together solid impressions without desperately chasing down info or piecing things together for hours. That's the role of the expert, not me.

But, I still tinker with the mock draft here and there. Sometimes, my adjustments make a positive impact. Other times, well, let’s just say they mess things up completely. It’s a bit of a gamble every year.

The first mock draft typically lands on a Sunday or Monday, and by the time it's posted, there are always a few tweaks. Once the final version is done, I throw it onto my to-do list with the intention of getting to it before the actual draft. In reality, it usually gets posted with little to no revision because—well, what's the point? By the time the draft night arrives, the mock draft becomes irrelevant. We’re about to find out the names of the first 32 picks, and with that, this mock draft (and any others) will be forgotten.

So, here’s the 2025 mock draft, which I’m happy to declare the worst version ever (because let’s be honest, aren’t they all?). Whether you love it or hate it, in about 24 hours, none of it will matter. We’ll know the first 32 picks, and then, someone will inevitably post the 2026 mock draft, probably starting with Arch Manning going to the Giants, or the Colts, or the Saints.

Anyway, without further ado, here’s the newest worst mock draft ever:

  1. Titans: Cam Ward, QB, Miami

  2. Browns: Travis Hunter, WR/CB, Colorado

  3. Giants: Abdul Carter, Edge, Penn State

  4. Patriots: Will Campbell, OT, LSU

  5. Jaguars: Mason Graham, DT, Michigan

  6. Raiders: Kelvin Banks, Jr., OT, Texas

  7. Jets: Tyler Warren, TE, Penn State

  8. Panthers: Jalon Walker, LB, Georgia

  9. Saints: Armand Membou, OT, Missouri

  10. Bears: Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State

  11. 49ers: Shemar Stewart, Edge, Texas A&M

  12. Cowboys: Matthew Golden, WR, Texas

  13. Dolphins: Will Johnson, CB, Michigan

  14. Colts: Kenneth Grant, DT, Michigan

  15. Falcons: James Pearce, Edge, Tennessee

  16. Cardinals: Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Arizona

  17. Bengals: Tyler Booker, G, Alabama

  18. Seahawks: Carson Schewsinger, LB, UCLA

  19. Buccaneers: Maxwell Hairston, CB, Kentucky

  20. Broncos: Omarion Hampton, RB, North Carolina

  21. Steelers: Colston Loveland, TE, Michigan

  22. Chargers: Mykel Williams, Edge, Georgia

  23. Packers: Malaki Starks, S, Georgia

  24. Vikings: Nic Scourton, Edge, Texas A&M

  25. Texans: Emeka Egbuka, WR, Ohio State

  26. Rams: Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado

  27. Ravens: Donovan Jackson, G, Ohio State

  28. Lions: Derrick Harmon, DT, Oregon

  29. Commanders: Shavon Revel Jr., CB, East Carolina

  30. Bills: Luther Burden III, WR, Missouri

  31. Chiefs: Josh Simmons, OT, Ohio State

  32. Eagles: Nick Emmanwori, S, South Carolina

So there it is—the 2025 mock draft. If you like it, great. If you hate it, I totally get it. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t matter because by the time we reach 11:30 PM ET tomorrow, we’ll have all the answers. And soon enough, someone will start working on the mock draft for 2026. Get ready for another round of guessing, tinkering, and inevitable mock draft misery. Until then, enjoy the chaos!
