Xavier Newman-Johnson Signs Exclusive Rights Tender to Return to the Jets for 2025 Season

Xavier Newman-Johnson, a 25-year-old guard for the New York Jets, has officially signed his exclusive rights tender, ensuring his return to the team for the 2025 NFL season. Exclusive rights tenders are one-year contracts offered to players with less than three years of NFL experience, effectively preventing them from negotiating with other teams.

Newman-Johnson's journey to the Jets began in 2022 when he signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent out of Baylor University. After spending his rookie season primarily on the practice squad, he made his NFL debut in December 2022. In 2023, Newman-Johnson split his time between the Titans and the Jets. He joined the Jets' practice squad in October 2023 and was promoted to the active roster in November 2023. He was waived in December 2023 but re-signed to the practice squad and returned to the active roster later that month. 

Over the course of his career, Newman-Johnson has played in 20 games with five starts, accumulating 307 offensive snaps and 65 special teams snaps. In the 2024 season, he participated in nine games, playing 11 offensive snaps and 31 special teams snaps. Notably, during a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in October 2024, he suffered a high-impact hit and collapsed on the sideline. He was hospitalized but released the following day after tests showed no major injuries. He returned to the Jets after the team's subsequent game.

By signing his exclusive rights tender, Newman-Johnson is set to earn a base salary of $1.1 million in 2025, with a cap hit of $1.1 million.His versatility across multiple positions on the offensive line has been a valuable asset to the Jets, and his return adds depth to their roster for the upcoming season.
